God With Us: There He Goes Again

Image
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  ~ Isaiah 41:10 ~ No matter how busy we get or how much we see, God continues to be central to it all. He is the peace that surpasses all understanding, the light in the darkness, and the ever-present help in trouble. A few weeks ago, we were continuing to make our way up the East coast, this time from Virginia Beach to just south of Alexandria outside of Washington, D.C. I was so fixed on avoiding the low-clearance height of the northbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and creating a safe route through Norfolk to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel that I neglected to research the rest of the route. As we neared our exit en route to Pohick Bay Regional Park on the Potomac, we noticed a bright yellow low clearance bridge sign. I was in disbelief, and I’m not quick on my feet, so I thought for sure it would ...

Travel Recap #14: California Dreamin' - Part 2

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” ~ St. Augustine ~ Our route southward from the desert took us back down through San Bernardino toward Palm Springs. We overnighted at a Casino in Indio, witnessed an incredible sunset over the mountains with palm trees in the foreground, finished up our customary in-town chores, then continued the next day to the dispersed camping area south of Joshua Tree National Park. It turned out great!! The day we ventured in to Joshua Tree, we drove up through the South Entrance past a bunch of Ocotillo and to our first quick hike around the Cholla Cactus Garden. It was crazy to see thousa...

I am certain I’ve left at least a couple things out, but I’m also sure neither of us will lose any sleep over it. Just in the couple weeks since I posted Part 1, we’ve had a couple straps cut and stolen from our bike rack, one of our landing gear snap pads cracked and popped off on a high curb, we incurred a fuel leak in the engine bay of our truck, the plastic awning motor cover snapped off due to a low tree branch, and Justin had to figure out how to adjust a slide on our RV that wasn’t opening all the way out. Although fixing the issue is often fairly simple, RV ownership does take a certain amount of patience and resourcefulness. That said, don’t let the following list scare you away… Much of what goes wrong can be categorized as simple wear and tear. I’ve lost cou...
